Receiving out of date notifications

Background

The Elda (Chrome) Updater Service is a background service that ensures Elda (Chrome) stays up to date. It periodically checks for updates and downloads any missing update files to the device. When all Elda apps are closed, the Updater Service then installs the update files and registers any necessary files.

But for specific reasons, the update will not happen and this will in return send a Notification to the Users and this Knowledge Base Article will provide information on what are the causes and  the solutions

 

Issue

Sometimes, when starting an Elda (Chrome) app, an out of date notification is received shortly after

Here's a sample of an out of date notification email.

Causes

Elda (Chrome) apps are running

The most common cause of receiving out of date notifications is Elda (Chrome) apps are running and Elda (Chrome) Updater Service will not end the apps to update while you are using them.

Here, you can see Elda (Chrome) Updater Service has logged a warning with message Cannot update as processes are running out of C:\Program Files\WebChrome

Solutions

Elda (Chrome) apps are running - Restart approach

  1. Restart your PC
  2. Do not open any Elda (Chrome) apps within a check for updates update (typically 15 minutes)
    With no Elda (Chrome) apps running, Elda (Chrome) Updater Service should be able to perform an update cycle

Elda (Chrome) apps are running - Close Elda (Chrome) apps approach

  1. Close all Elda (Chrome) apps from 
    In this example, Scheduler and Products are open and show on the task bar
  2. Open Task Manager. See Open Task Manager.
  3. Go to the details tab
  4. If not already showing, show Image path name. See Show the Image path name column.
  5. Sort by Image path name. See Sort processes by Image path name.
  6. Scroll to view any processes running out of C:\Program Files\WebChrome
    In this example, Products.exe and Scheduler.exe are running out of C:\Program Files\WebChrome
  7. For each process running out of C:\Program Files\WebChrome
    1. Select the process
    2. Click End task. See End a Process.
  8. Close Task Manager
  9. Do not open any Elda (Chrome) apps within a check for updates update (typically 15 minutes)
    With no Elda (Chrome) apps running, Elda (Chrome) Updater Service should be able to perform an update cycle
