Josta GPS Battery replacement (Oyster & Yabby)

This guide outlines the process for replacing batteries in JOSTA GPS tracking devices.

Regular battery replacement helps ensure devices remain online and continue reporting correctly. As a guideline, check the Last Online status of each device. If a device has been offline for more than 3–4 days, replace the batteries.

Best Practice: Schedule battery inspections and replacements every 3–4 months to help ensure devices remain operational and to reduce the likelihood of devices going offline due to depleted batteries.

Steps

Gather the following materials before replacing the batteries:

• Tracking device (Oyster or Yabby)
• Screwdriver
• Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries:
  • Oyster: 3 × AA
  • Yabby: 3 × AAA

Note: Bitberry no longer supplies replacement batteries. Teams are responsible for purchasing Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries locally.

2. Unscrew 6x screws the tracking device from its box:

3. Take out the three used batteries from the tracking devices and dispose of them properly.

4. Inserted the three new batteries into the tracking device on the with correct orientation to match polarity. (Insert the batteries into the battery holder with appropriate force without touching the sensitive electronic components on the device. The blue indicator light within the box will flash three times.)

5. If indicating light flash then check the rubber seal and screw back 6x screws to the tracking device.

(Do not overtighten the screws, but please ensure the two halves of the housing fit snugly to prevent water/dust ingress when installed.)

** IMPORTANT ** After inserting batteries, please check with the system online status of the device which replace the batteries. Otherwise, the device will not send data to Josta. Each box has an ID sticker on the side which uniquely associates with a specific device, make sure to use plastic cover with serial number to its relevant device.

The Josta device is now ready for use.
