Stock Yield on Block Production

Overview

An issue has been identified where customers are supplied with cut products that result in significant scrap production. The scrap is subsequently returned for re-cycling but the on hand stocks are not decreased by a sufficient margin to reflect the actual stock levels remaining.

This modification allows an approximated scrap rate to be set against a customers cut profile which is then used to reflect a closer stock usage when the sales are integrated into Great Plains.

Before you begin

  • The functions detailed here are in relation to the scheduling application.

Operation

These changes are in relation to the Foam Block extension available in the scheduling application by double clicking a sundry line item against a customer schedule:

Double click the row header against a foam block sundry item to gain access to the system.

If modifying customer template items the system may be accessed by double clicking any foam block items for the customer in any schedule:

New fields have been added to allow the system to gauge the approximate block requirement for the supplied items:

  • S Len - The length of the source stock item
  • S Width - The width of the source stock item
  • S Height - The Height of the Source Stock Item
  • S Yield - How many items can be cut from the source dimensions

These figures can be the requirement for one item or the number of items that can be derived from a source block of the given dimensions.

When the invoice is integrated to Great Plains, the item weight will be calculated based on the proportioned stock dimensions. This means the quantity advised to the customer on the actual invoice will be different to the actual weight detailed on GP's customer account, however the value will remain the same.

Usually, the weight in GP will be more than that detailed on the customer invoice but will be more representative of the amount of stock consumed when supplying the product.

These values may be altered on a case by case basis if required by can also be recorded against a customers default template item and used as defaults when the template item is selected.

Click the template item selector in the grid to display template items available for the customer:

The source details may be entered against the template items as required in the sub item browser window:

Any values entered here are updated immediately to the database. When an item is selected for use, the values are copied into the sundry item for supply and used as default values.

They may then in turn be altered without affecting the template item values if required.
