Processing EldaScanner Placeholder tags

On occasion, during processing, a unit of steel will have a a tag that will not scan due to damage or is not recognised by the system.

The operator can elect to create a placeholder tag for the steel so that heat traceability can be maintained.

Creating the place holder tag

The machine operator selects the Placeholder function:

Details to be entered include:

  • The name of the steel supplier (Select from Infrabuild, Natsteel etc)
  • The type and description of the unit (ie N12 bar in 6 metre lengths)

Upon completion an email will be automatically sent to a production supervisor advising that the placeholder tag has been created with the relative details.

The email will contain information similar to the following:

Processing the Place holder tag

To apply a correction to the place holder tag, use the Chrome Inventory application.

Select the Heat Data function:

Examine the original Heat Tag and identify the Heat number that the place holder applies.

Enter the heat number in the Heat Number search field

Select the Heat line that contains the Batch number or Barcode details on the original heat tag:

An asterisk (*) will appear on the place holders Tags tab indicating that there are possible matches for placeholders against this supplier and product type.

Select the Place holder Tags tab:

Locate the place holder to be assigned from the email details:

Note: The last 2 numbers of the Heat Tag Ref will not be included in the placeholder display as there may be more than one bundle for this place holder

Click the "Assign to Selected heat" button to complete the assignment.

Note: You can only assign multiple placeholders to the one selected heat if required, however the number will be limited to only as many bundles are in the selected heat.

Selecting more bundles and attempting to assign will produce the following error:

Returning to the Heat Data tab, the re-assigned place holder will not be searchable under the assigned heat number and can be located by searching the Heat tag ref as well:

If there is a likelihood that the heat tag will need to be re-scanned on the factory floor at a future date, the original heat tag can be reprinted and handed to the operator to be attached to the remnant of the bundle for this purpose. This function requires you to have permission to reprint Heat Tags in Chrome Inventory.

 Correcting Placeholder information

It is possible for the machine operator to incorrectly input details of a placeholder tag where the item number, supplier or country of origin are incorrect.

To correct this information a facility has been added to the Place Holder Tab in Chrome Inventory.

As an example, the following placeholder tag has been assigned to an incorrect supplier:

In Chrome Inventory, open the Heat Data page and select the Place holder Tags tab page.

Right click in the blank area and select "Find Placeholder". A dialog will appear requesting the actual barcode of the place holder tag to be entered. Copy and paste the required tag barcode from the email received:

Pressing OK will retrieve the details and display them in the placeholder grid:

Selecting the record and using the "Edit Placeholder" function will display the placeholder edit dialog:

Details can be changed as required and will be batch saved to the remote tables when the save button is pressed.

Saved details may take several seconds before being propagated back to the local database. If required, refresh the page after several seconds if the display has not updated correctly.

Alternatively you can re-edit the tag and press save without any changes.
