Error: MSDTC on server is unavailable

Issue

Almost immediately on opening an application, an window appears with error message MSDTC on server is unavailable.

Full error message (for search purposes):

Run-time error '-2147217900 (80040e14)':

MSDTC on server 'NTSQL01BBER' is unavailable

Cause

In almost all cases, this issue occurs after the database server reboots and login is attempted before the server is fully ready to service login requests 

Solution

Typically, just wait. Database servers typically reboot fairly quickly and the database server service starts quite promptly. Try opening the application or performing the action you were trying in a minute or so. But of course, if the same error is coming up after say 5 minutes, start a conversation with us.
